So I have managed to get myself a spot on the Fred Whitton Challenge 2023.
So Sunday 7th May 2023, I shall set off from Grasmere for 112 miles taking in some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK. Oh yes I fogot it includes approximately 10,000 feet of climbing. At least there will also be approximately 10,000 feet of decending as well which if any of you know me I do love a nice downhill section of road.
So why on earth would I sign up to voluntarily sign up to be on my bike for hopefully 7 and half hours maximum. I want to mark turning 50 years of age and give myself a wee challenge and I am going to do it in memory of my mum. For those who do not know Mum lost her battle with cancer in January 2021. It is for that reason that I shall be trying to raise some money for Macmillan cancer care whilst I train and complete the ride.
So do not be shy with your pennies or even better those pounds, euros or any other currency depending on where you are. It will all make a difference. So that has fixed my winter and spring activites firmly in lots of cycling and therefore a retrun to lots of time in the garage on the old turbo trainer doiing various high intensity sessions to improve my overall fitness with a lot of hill work as I don't think I shall make it otherwise. Please stay tuned for further updates and tracking my progress during the various training rides.
